About us

The conference is organised by ERGaR, the European Renewable Gas Registry. ERGaR is the leading European association focused on renewable gas certification, cross border biomethane trade and market transparency. It has amongst its members national biomethane registries, biomethane traders, producers and other stakeholders.

ERGaR has developed a Certificate of Origin (CoO) scheme that enables national registries to transfer biomethane certificates cross borders in a secure and traceable way. This system helps reduce market fragmentation, promotes transparency, and supports the growth of cross border biomethane trade.

The European biomethane market is entering a period of rapid development. Demand from the energy, transport and industrial sectors is increasing, while European climate goals and new policy frameworks are accelerating the need for sustainable alternatives. At the same time, the market remains fragmented by differences in national certification schemes, trading practices and regulatory requirements.

The European Biomethane Trading Conference brings together the stakeholders who are shaping the market and aims to address these challenges directly. The event provides a platform for open discussion, knowledge exchange and collaboration. Participants explore policy, certification, sustainability criteria, cross border trading mechanisms and emerging commercial opportunities across the continent.

Attendees of the conference can expect:

  • Expert led sessions on current policy and market developments
  • Insights into certification, traceability and cross border trading frameworks
  • Updates on market trends, demand drivers and investment opportunities
  • Extensive networking with registries, traders, certification bodies, policymakers and end users
